Sign of the Week

The Sign of the Week comes to us from Waynesboro, home of Mike's Cycle . Mike's shop is part Ural dealership, part museum, part eccentric hang-out. The motorbike suspended from the sign is a Honda Dream, as far as Sam and I can make out.....

Sam and I had the pleasure of a major south-west 225 mile motorbike fang that tied the killer twisty highways of Tn 48, 99, 228, and 128 together. I had the head-ache from constant grinning. Too good.

We checked in at Clifton to discover and mourn the passing of the ferry that used to cross the Tennessee River there. The last time we were there in early 1998 we were able to cross. This was the ferry crossing used twice by Nathan Bedford Forrest to seuge into west Tennessee during the Civil War.

Sounds like a great ride! I crossed on the ferry at Cumberland City a couple weeks ago, can't explain why it's so much fun, but it is.

Yeah, I can't explain it either, but a ferry crossing is like a major accomplishment. Too cool.

A few years ago me and Sam, Cameron, Bonnie and Gawain crossed the mighty Mississippi and it was the ultimate. It took over an hour for the wait, and at least 25 to 30 minutes for the ferry across. Damn, what a river! The guys on the ferry were so cool that they didn't even charge us the $1.00 fee 'cuz we were on motorbikes.

Hey, that Honda is a dream I’ve had too! I’ve been in that shop a time or two, right off the square and within sight of the courthouse. What about that Hwy 128 from Linden to Clifton? You can make the old foot pegs throw some sparks down that way. Like an old buddy of mine used to say “ so crooked, you’re liable to run your battery down, honking at your own taillights”.

Yup, great ride Pap, and If'n I remember correctly you were the one who suggested the Highway's 228 and 128 to me. Thanks!
