Saturday in the Woods

We took a bit of repartee in the woods on Saturday to give a try to some of what we had seen and maybe learned last week-end at the World Trials round. If the amount of times I was on the ground or went swiming in the creek is any indication, I didn't learn shit.

The Guru has been doing a bit of tweaking to the Scorpa SY and Hockeyboy has been jonesing to give it a thrashing. It seemed like all the mods of late are a success.

Enjoying the humidity in the woods was The Guru, Hockeyboy, Nubbie, Mennonite Mike, Pap, and Mikey P. Forces conspired to keep the Captain at work, while the Trialsrooster is getting over some oral surgery from Friday. We missed ya' boys.....

World Trials Part 3

This is Montesa/Honda rider Dougie Lampkin, seven-time World Trial Champion. Think about that shit for a minute. Seven-time world champion. Third generation from Britian. No pressure there.

He has the rear tire on a muddy tree root and his front tire is on the point of a rock. His feet are about six feet off the ground, and he's balanced on his foot-pegs. The guy behind him is his minder (and brother) and he's telling him whether he needs to hop a half-inch to one side or the other to be in the most perfect position for what-ever's next. He yells great stuff like "Look ahead!" and "Confidence now!" and "Don't underestimate this!"

Dougie's exactly where he wants to be, he's about to twist that fuel-injected Honda four-stroke for all it's worth, bang the clutch, and land up there next to that observer dude on the right.....I swear.

More to come.....

World Trials Part 2

Here we see Albert Cabestany again, from Spain on the Sherco two-stroke. He's currently ranked fourth in the world, and finished in the runner-up position in the 2006 World Indoor Championship.

You see that red marker up there to the right? He's gonna' finish that splatter and then balance up there on that rock on an area the size of a bath mat whle he plans his next magical trick.....all from a standing balanced, feet on the pegs stop.....Lordy, have mercy.

World Trials Part 1

These guys are unbelieveable.

A couple of years ago I got to see Jeff Beck play. I wanted to come home and burn all my guitars. That's the same way these guys made me feel. The next time anybody asks me if I'm a trials rider I may have to just say no!

More to come.......

Sign of the Week

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know it's not a sign but I thought it was close enough for horseshoes.

The Nubster, Sam and I had a bit of a fang last Sunday on our trusty DRZ Suzuki's. It was really more of an excuse for therapy and to just get the hell lost for a while and waste some precious petroleum products. Trust me, we did both. Oh yes.

Anyways, we're riding the ridge on Ben Fly Road out in west B.F.E. Hickman County and we come across this mailbox......It made me think of The Captain .

Tacklin' a Sapling.....

To say that there was a bit of carnage during the ITSA trials out at the Ranch this week-end would be a bit of an understatement. I know that I certainly provided a fairly entertaining crash to the festivities.

There were a couple of saplings that had evidently at some point in time pissed off The Captain and Murray because they both had fairly spectular get-offs while trying to rip them out of the ground. We never did figure that out..... The Captain actually climbed the tree while on his KT250 and then rode it to the ground! There's is some video of this and if it gets posted elsewhere on the web you can be sure that a link to that will be provided at a later date. I think I also heard that there was video of my indescretion.....

Now, in the first pic here Murray looks okay as he's headed out of section 2. In the second pic we see him after a dismount that a gymnastics coach would have been extremely proud of. In that disipline it would have been a 10, which is great on the mats, but here at the Ranch it's just a 5, and that sucks!

Oh yeah, everyone survived, saps and saplings alike!

ITSA Trials

The Captain came out yesterday to help us finish marking the sections. We were going to say something to him about riding them, but after watching him ride for a bit, we decided that he really needed the practice!

Come on out to the Ranch this Saturday for the next round of the ITSA Championship Trials Series , scottish style format as usual.

Family reunion

Took a good motorbike ride this week-end with Sam and Bonnie and attended the annual Green Family Reunion. We ate until I thought I was gonna' have to take a nap on the lawn before mounting the trusty DRZ for the thrash back to the Old Dick P.O. Can you say cornbread dressing and dumplings?

The pic is new momma Kim and the freshest Green Family Reunion attendee Jenna Grace. Evidently Jenna saw something funny, but she didn't share the joke with the rest of us......

Lazy Lazy Lazy

This is Sherman. He's the top shop cat out at the ranch at B&J . He goes by many names, The Sherminator, Squirrel Butt, Shoimen, Squirm, Schquirman, everybody calls him something different, and he always comes.

He keeps all the dogs in line big time and sleeps a lot. He will lay on any vehicle, anytime, any spot on the vehicle he chooses. He's been known to get so relaxed that he rolls off sometimes.....we hardly ever laugh. He also likes to sleep on his face. He'll sit in a Sphinx-like pose, except he'll tuck his face under his chest and sleep on his face. Very weird.

Oh, and he bitches a lot too. Constantly vocal, chirps like a bird on occasion. Never believe anyone who tells you that cats aren't social and that cats don't like people, they don't know what the heck they're talking about, he's never met a stranger. Always, always under foot.

The Parts Bitch slammed his head in her F-150 truck door one day and it didn't really faze him. The Guru pulled the garage bay door on him once too. See what I mean about always under foot. He's pretty tough though.....

Today's Victim

A couple of blogs ago over at No Time To Spare, Pap made mention of a strange smoke belching monster being piloted by the Guru.

This is it. It's one of only two up and running Fantic trials bikes that I know of. Kind of an obscure Italian brand when it comes to competition trials motorcycles. This one is a Trial 300 Professional model. Fantic was a major trials bike contender during the late twin shock period and up into the formative years of the mono shock era.....

Check out that funkee looking kickstarter closely. It kicks forward. Now, look down at your right shin and think about that shit for a minute.
