Lord only knows what you'll find here....There'll be rants and raves and skating and motorcycles and guitars and whatever else might be necessary to pass the time. Thanks for stopping in......

Supermoto

If you're keeping up with the AMA SUPERMOTO Championship series go HERE for results from Saturday night.

And, after reading those race results, think about this......A healthy Doug Henry and Jeff Ward to race with. And throw the KTM of Kunzel in the mix, well I am so THERE when they come back to the fairgrounds in Nash-Vegas later this summer. Link to The Music City Motorplex schedule is HERE .

The congregation of the Church of Our Celebrated Lady of the Late Apex (COOCLLA) will as usual hold bench-racing and consumption Services high in the main grandstand overlooking the start-finish line, conveniently located near the refreshment stands as well as the restrooms. All denominations are welcome.

3 Zero K

If there is a more fun motorbike for all things I certainly don't know what it is. Today marked a particular milestone for my trusty Suzuki DRZ400S, it turned thirty thousand miles. That it turned 30 K miles while accompanying the Nubster on his maiden voyage with his very own new damn DRZ, then that made it all the better. I don't know of too many dirt bikes with thirty thou on the clock. Hell, I don't know of too many street bikes with that many miles!

My DRZ is a bike for all seasons and all roads, all conditions. I showed up on the DRZ for a sport-bike ride once with eight or so other bikes, and during the social walk-around greeting kind of thing, I heard this punk-ass guy say, with much sarcasm, "Huh. What's with the dirt-bike?" His older brother (a friend of mine) quickly told him not to worry about the dirt-bike keeping up, much to the punky guys hooting and laughing.

I delighted in making him over-cook corners and running away from him all day. He couldn't freaking believe it. After all, he was riding a Honda CBR600F4, a state of the art sport-bike. He wouldn't even speak to me when we'd stop for a piss break or refreshments or to smoke a cig. I love that shit.....It just made me ride harder, and the DRZ simply rewards that, it just don't give a damn what you throw at it when you're thrashing. Heck, it makes me look like I can ride.

By the way, quote of the day, from today. Nubbie told me when we split before dark this evening, that his DRZ just might be the most fun motorcycle he's ever owned.

Word.

Oh yes......

Sam's New Toy

Sam has a new toy. A Honda Hawk GT650. With custom paint.

Just like all children that are forced to play together I am jealous of Sam's new toy. On Monday evening when he did the wonderful sharing thing and he let me play with his new toy I did not want to give it back. I whinged and stomped around and tried to make excuses that what he was riding was better suited to him, but you know, I think he read through all my posturing......Sweet motorbike though.

The Resonator

I can't tell you much about the Jay Turser brand of guitars except that they are inexpensive as hell and are not too bad quality wise. Don't get me wrong, they're not a Fender or a Gibson, but they are not a Kingston or an Austin or a Lotus either. They are either made in Korea or China, I don't have a clue. Hell, maybe Taiwan......I've been told that one of the guys from the band Alabama is one of the three principals in the company, but that is only heresay on my part, I don't know if it's true or not.

I've got two or maybe three Turser guitars that I got off of eBay for almost nothing and this is my absolute favorite. It's a solid body electric dobro resonator guitar with a spun aluminum biscuit and a chrome cap in a cherry red finish. It has a piezo pick-up at the bridge and a small soapbar humbucker at the neck. The neck is maple with a rosewood fingerboard and is sweet as hell, and is quite the electric styled neck. The controls are a master volume, a tone, and a blend knob between the two pickups.

I got it because I generally want to stomp a mudhole in an acoustic guitar after about the first fifteen minutes of playing it. They just piss me off. This seems to aleviate that urge. I usually play it acoustically and it has a killer tone that is kind of a blend of an acoustic and an electric tone. It's my campfire guitar and as I have so little in it I don't mind just tossing it in the truck or the trailer and heading out. I'd probably shoot myself if I had to find a replacement for it......

Section Six

There were three or four of us dicking around in the 2 line (Intermediate) Section Six on Sunday, all of us were 3 line riders (Novices), all of us riding it only okay, never able to clean it. We had walked the section, analysed it, talked it over, but none of us had been able to clean it. None of us ever did. There were some fairly spectacular saves, many bashed trees, some crunched knuckles, and much giggling and finger pointing. Very entertaining.

Except for The Captain .

The Captain rolls up, never even checks out the section, flips his cigarette out, enters the section and proceeds to make up for all the laughing he has supplied us with for the past six months by having the absolute stellar ride of the day. Smooth as pulled taffy and looking like he had channeled Mick Andrews into his old ass bones, he cleaned the notorious Section Six with nary a perspiration broke. Cool as shit! He called it beginners luck but it was still one of the best rides I saw all day.......all day.

RD200

Another steed from the stable of the Nubster. A Yamaha RD200 Electric Start. The stuff that many a junior-high school heart palpitations were jump started for.

Twin leading shoe front brakes, real suspension (for the time), reed-valve induction with twin Mikuni carbs, twin pipes, and a sexy as socks on a pig metal-flake purple paint job. And chrome, lots of chrome. Man, what's not to lust after?

Tri 777 Skate

At the Bike Pedlar in the late 70's we were fairly hip to the evolution of the pig skate. If you wanted the latest skate gear or stickers in Nashville, you went to the Pedlar.

This is a skate that me and Dave Miller made a few of. It was canadian rock maple, seven ply, fairly flexy, easy to pump. Dimensions are10-3/4" wide by 30-1/2" long with a17-1/2" wheelbase. The pattern was a joint head-bumping by Dave and myself. The grip tape job was all Miller, he had a particular penchant for grip tape jobs. This one sports some fairly serious clear pizza-grip. You ain't ever had a shin or calf muscle seared until you get some 30 grit pizza-grip burns going on! Whoooweee! Can you say Bactine?

Ignore those Tracker Truck stickers on the tail, as soon as Independent's became available that's all that we rode. Currently it sports some Stage One Indy 169's equipped with Cloud bushings with 1/2" Tracker risers and an original set of Alva wheels. The other wheel we ran were Powerflex 5"s, in the rainbow color set, natch.....German bearings, always.

This stick still skates well today and I've been using the template on some modern style concave chunks of wood. I wish Miller was around to slap me up a hip tape job.

Crossing the River

Crossing the Mississippi late Sunday night in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, over the new bridge which is quite a sight. There were tows everywhere, I think i counted thirteen or so, all loaded with barges.

It's always a thrill for me to cross the mighty Mississipi River, makes me feel like a kid. Of course, I am easily amused.....

Frosty RL

The weather in Cuba Missouri this week-end was absolutely gorgeous for riding a trials on Sunday, sunny with a high in the upper 60's.

Saturday night was a different story though, with temps in the high twenties and some major frost, probably the last frost of the season there. We were seriously gathered around the charcoal fire that cooked our dinner while we enjoyed some libations and general bullshitting/bench-racing before bedtime!

The Nubster was kind enough to lay the nubbie left hand on my trusty RL250 for luck in the Sunday morning sun.....

Skillet Biscuits

The B&J crew went to Cuba, Missouri to ride a Midwest Vintage Trials this week-end.

Mennonite Mike was kind enough to hip me on Sunday morn to skillet biscuits. Skillet biscuits start out as the canned variety, but with some butter for broiling and a watchful cook they rise and are quite damned tasty!

He is the consumate camper and prepared a camping breakfast that had me asking him to marry me. Skillet biscuits, country ham, and scrambled eggs and coffee........Mmmmm good!

Yard Art

Lady Liberty stands guard at a crossroads in rural Sylvia, TN. I cannot tell you why or how she got there at this point. I see her twice a day and I always speak to her and she never fails to make me smile, and she never says a word.....

Conserving Rubber

The Captain , tired of wearing out the tread in the middle of his tires decides to wear on the sidewalls for a while instead, with this interesting, but tried and true riding style. Practice makes perfect.....I should know!

Goofball Alert

Buttercup and Blossom Update

Pretty damned happy to report that the girly-girls were adopted a couple days ago by a really cool lady who runs the best meat-n-three in the skatetruck area. She was replacing a Great Dane that she lost recently, so I guess she thought it might take two of these little fellows to make up for one of those big guys......Everything seems good, so all is well in the world of Buttercup and Blossom.

PAP Said.....

PAP said, "You know, this would be a whole lot easier if it wasn't so wet and there weren't so many tight turns."

Word.....

There were about a half dozen of us out to practice on Sunday. Had a ball, I think I only hit the ground once. We head for Cuba, Missouri to ride the next Midwest Vintage Trials this Sunday the 9th.....

Buttercup and Blossom

Even though it's springtime, we're not talking about some random spring bloomings....

This is Buttercup and Blossom. They're girly little siblings, three years old, and are each about the size of a kitty cat. Expertly coiffured. They are of the Shitzu breed. Not generally the type of dog that would be picked up by the skatetruck radar, but they are absolutely sweet as hell......A miniature tag team, they do almost everything shoulder to shoulder. A hoot.

They were dropped off at a vet clinic last week by a lady who has found herself pregnant and she left them to be put to sleep. Again, she left them to be put to sleep. They couldn't be around the baby, don't you know.

This woman is gonna' get a surprise when (and if) she shows up at the Pearly Gates. Maybe like the surprise mentioned HERE by the pitcherlady a few days ago.

At any rate, most folks may think that it's the big stuff that went on during your time here on the globe that's going to be discussed when you make it up to see old Saint Pete, but at skatetruck we're of the opinion that it's gonna' be the little shit that's going to be scribbled on his legal pad.

Happy Daylight Saving Time!

Goofy for April Fool's

Are THESE some ultra-funky kicks or what? Whooo-wee.

Evidently the austere legislators in the great state of Mississippi have nothing better to do than to worry about folks getting their jollies using Sex-Toys in the privacy of their own damn home. Don't you think that it's kind of sad that they don't think they have anything better to do than this kind of law-making....The line of the month from The Memphis Flyer is HERE .....When dildos are outlawed, only outlaws will have dildos.....

Buck Owens passed away the other day. R.I.P. Buck Owens. I was alerted to some more really goofy shit HERE at the home of the Nashville Knucklehead (no, we ain't talking Harley knucklehead).

Folks, I just can't sit around and make this shit up.....The scary part is that none of these are April Fool's gags.
